Keep Silence
December 21, 2009
“Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
and with fear and trembling stand;
Ponder nothing worldly minded, for with blessing in his hand
Christ our God to earth descendeth, our full homage to demand.”
- Liturgy of St. James, 4th century
Stop.
Stop the rush, the hustle, the bustle, the crossing of items off
lists, the frantic last minute purchases.
Stop.
Remember what you are celebrating – and Whom.
It is time for silence.
- Do you find it difficult to stop and spend
time in silence, reverence, and awe before God? If so, why?
- When
can you make the time (notice, not “find” the
time … we have to make the time) to spend in true worship – worship
that is “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24)?
- What
can you do to stop worldly-minded thoughts and replace them with
true homage of God, as the carol above urges?
